The Molino Stucky
in 1895

In Venice on the Giudecca island, the largest in the whole city, separated from the rest of the city by the wide Canal, the imposing Molino Stucky building is being brought back to life. This majestic baked-brick building in Hanseatic Neogothic style was erected by the architect Wullenkop in 1895 for the Venetian entrepreneur Stucky and, notwithstanding lively discussions of citizens at the time of its inauguration, over the years it was to become a symbol and model in its sector, owing both to the technology of its systems and its specific location: overlooking the wide Giudecca Canal, lapped on both sides by the Rio di San Biagio Canal and the Lavraneri Canal and, to the south, extending right to the Lagoon.
